They have lived up to that expectation so far, with the window less than 10 days old, with links to a number of moves.
An attacking midfielder is high up on the shopping list, with a return for Martin Odegaard still not totally ruled out.
Departures are also expected, with Matteo Guendouzi one of the outcasts who is being linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest Arsenal transfer news…
Madrid eye Odegaard offer
Real Madrid are sizing up making Arsenal an offer that could see Martin Odegaard return to the Emirates Stadium.
Odegaard enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Gunners after joining in the January transfer window, becoming a regular in Mikel Arteta’s side.
The Norwegian’s displays made Arteta keen to bring him back on a more permanent basis, though the lack of European football next year appeared to make a deal unlikely.
Who should Arsenal sign in the summer transfer window? Comment below.
But those hopes have been reignited with reports that Madrid could seek to make the Gunners an offer that will see Odegaard return to London.
The Daily Mail report that the Spanish giants will offer Odegaard as part of a swap deal for Gunners midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.
They state that Madrid would be “willing” to accept such a deal, with Smith Rowe also the subject of a bid from Aston Villa.
Gunners receive Onana boost
Arsenal have received a major boost in their hopes of signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The Cameroonian is currently serving a 12-month suspension for a doping violation, though the 25-year-old is appealing his sentence.
The departure of Mat Ryan coupled with Alex Runarsson’s failure to impress means that the Gunners are looking to recruit a keeper in the summer window.
Bernd Leno’s future is also unclear, with the German increasingly linked with an exit from the Emirates this summer.
Onana has long been a target of the Gunners and Goal report that Ajax could be willing to accept as little as £7million for the 25-year-old.
It is stated though that the Gunners will wait for the verdict of the appeal before confirming their interest, which is expected later this month.
Maddison made “main target”
Leicester star James Maddison has reportedly been made one of Mikel Arteta’s main targets for the summer window.
The Gunners are searching for a new attacking midfielder following the return of Odegaard to Real Madrid.
Maddison has now moved high up their shortlist for replacements after a season in which he starred for the Foxes.
He scored or assisted 14 goals in 16 matches between December and February, as well as helping Brendan Rodgers’ side to win the FA Cup.
And the Daily Mail report that Maddison’s form has attracted the eye of Gunners boss Areta, who has made the Englishman one of his top targets.
Leicester are expected to be in a strong negotiating position though, with Maddison having signed a four-year deal last summer.
