Mermaid Waters has had its house price record smashed for an unprecedented fifth time in as little as six months reaching a heady $3.52 million.
The four-storey waterfront home at 13 Intrepid Drive had yet to hit the market, according to agent Sam Guo of Kollosche.
According to RP Data records, the seller is Hannah Quinlivan, the wife of Taiwanese mega-star rapper Jay Chou.
Mr Guo would not be drawn on any details about the sellers other than to say that they no longer used the house and it had become surplus to their requirements.
Ms Quinlivan bought the property in 2015 for $2.65 million. She still owns a waterfront mansion in Surfers Paradise, which she bought in 2017 for $5.25 million.
Mr Guo, who sold the Mermaid Waters home with colleague Julia Kuo, said it was a local buyer who paid top dollar for the four-storey abode on a single block, with views across Lake Intrepid.
“The buyer had been wanting to purchase in the street for a long time and had been eyeing off the house, which was supposed to go to action,” Mr Guo said.
“When he heard it was coming up for sale he carried out an inspection and put an offer in after the first viewing,” he said. “He just loved the location and the views.”
Mermaid Waters continues to go from strength to strength.
In January the highest price paid for a house on a double block was $3.25 million for 29-31 Cessnock Close. It had held the record since 2017, but in February No. 3 Vevey St, owned by Gold Coast councillor Darren Taylor and his wife Samantha Reynolds, smashed that record when their renovated Palm Springs-style property on a single block was sold at auction through Harcourts Broadbeach for $3.397 million.
Rochelle Lamers and Eoghan Murphy of Kollosche responded with the sale in April of 21 Saxonvale Terrace, which was hotly contested at auction before selling for $3.41 million.
Their glory was short lived, however, after Kollosche colleagues Marco de Vincentiis and Jay Helprin pipped them for the top slot two weeks later with the sale of 7 Crestmore Avenue, a multi-storey waterfront home, for $3.431 million.
Three weeks after that and Justin Haynes of Amir Mian Prestige offloaded a four-bedroom waterfront property on a 1200sq m block at 30 Lancelin Drive for $3.5 million.
The initial record holder, 29-31 Cessnock Close is still on the market after passing in at auction earlier this year. It is on track to break the record for a sixth time in 2021 if it sells. It is on the market with Hanan Cawley of Harcourts Coastal.
