It’s expected Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will undergo major surgery during the upcoming transfer window but one name that you wouldn’t expect to see on that list is Aubameyang
Arsenal fans are undecided after hearing that the club are reportedly willing to part ways with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer.
It’s expected the current Gunners squad will undergo major surgery during the upcoming transfer window with the number of exits potentially reaching double digits in Mikel Arteta’s ruthless clear-out.
But one name that you wouldn’t expect to see on that list is Aubameyang.
Aubameyang is one of the club’s highest earners after signing a new deal in September 2020 which doesn’t run out until 2023.
Should Arsenal sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer? Comment below
The 31-year-old did have a disappointing season for his standards, but he has been one of Arsenal’s best performers in recent years.
And opinion is split between supporters after hearing the news with some suggesting it could be a good idea to get him off the wage bill to facilitate the rebuild.
@ GoonerKieAFC said: “Not against this at all, think now is the perfect time to move him on.”
@ PaulBryden2 added: “Considering how long it took him to sign. Should have been warning signs enough to sell him straight away. But no we offer him a wage no other club will pay for. And he stops scoring and gets lazy. Watch him roll his contract out.”
@ jayi_JB_ said: “He should leave if he’s not ready to be committed. I want committed and serious players who are ready to die for Arsenal to win trophies.”
@ WilliamConboy tweeted: “I adore Auba. The guy’s a hero. But last season was a 4/10 MAX, and we’re simply so much better with him not in the team. We have much better options in the left (Martinelli, Saka, Pepe, ESR) and better link up No.9s. Makes sense.”
A portion of fans are outraged over the possibility of losing the player of Aubameyang’s calibre, however.

They feel that the club shouldn’t forget what he has done for the club despite a below-par campaign.
@ RahulArsenal1 tweeted: “One bad season and we’re selling him. Meanwhile, Xhaka can fail our club for 5 years yet he’s considered an Arsenal legend.”
@ JosephatNyabwan added: “Arsenal is my team but it’s doomed, it should be relegated or change to a dance club. Useless.”
@ Chykere tweeted: “I hope he moves to a bigger club. Arsenal fans are TOXIC. One bad season (with justifiable reasons – mum, malaria) & they turned on him. This man carried the club for 2-3 seasons.”
@ tv_gooner said: “I stick with Auba through the good and bad times because that’s what a supporter does. I stick with Auba because he will bounce back.”
