Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman’s future at the club will be decided after a “period of reflection”, according to club president Joan Laporta.
Rumours have been flying about whether the Dutchman will stay in charge of the Spanish side but Koeman himself has made it clear he would like to stay at the club.
Reports suggested in May that former Barca player Xavi Hernandez had entered talks with club bosses about potentially taking over from Koeman.
The discussions were said to be had with the upmost discretion in respect for the current manager but players are believed to have known they were taking place.
The club are reviewing Koeman’s tenure, though nothing is clear about who will lead Barca next season.
Laporta said: “We said that we were opening a period of reflection about Koeman, we have to evaluate what went well and not so well last season.
“The wish is to respect the contract, bringing together criteria which we need to talk about still.
“We will continue with the period of reflection with Koeman then in a week or 10 days we will decide.
“We are going to see how the conversations with Koeman develop. They are going very well, but we need a little more time.”
The comments from the president come just days after Koeman’s agency Wasserman Netherlands took a swipe at the club.
They tweeted about how the side will stick by Koeman if they cannot find a “better” manager.
Wasserman Netherlands wrote: “Imagine: I want to marry you, but I have doubts. Give me two weeks to find a better partner… If I can’t find the right person, we will get married anyway!”

Will Koeman stay at Barca? Comment below
While the club and his agency are uncertain about his future at the Spanish giants, Koeman said earlier this season his performance shows why he should remain in charge.
He said: “It’s very important for a coach to work in a club where he has absolute confidence. If that’s the case, I can and I’d like to stay.
“We won the Copa del Rey, we cut the gap with Atletico down by 12 points to fight for the title, but then if you look at the press coverage in the last few days, it seems as if I’ve done a bad job.
“It’s not fair that one day everything seemed perfect and two weeks later, everything is horrible.”
Barcelona finished third in the La Liga table, seven points behind champions Atletico Madrid.
In a bid to bolster their squad for next season they have signed Sergio Aguero from Manchester City on a two-year deal.
Signing the striker could be a crucial move for Barca as Lionel Messi’s future with the club is still unclear.
And at his press conference announcing his move, Aguero said he would “love” to play with his Argentinian teammate.
“Obviously, it would be a pleasure and it would make me very proud to play together. I’ve played with him in the [Argentina] national team since we were kids, I know him quite well and I hope we can play together here.
“I think we will, but let’s hope we can do the best for the club.”
