Tanya Hennessy may just be surviving Sydney’s second lockdown better than anyone else.
“I live on my couch,” she says.
“I have written three books on that couch, watched too much RuPaul’s Drag Race on that couch and have eaten too much Uber Eats on that couch. It has a dent from my butt.”
Tanya also jokes she is a “professional napper” whiling away the hours on her alfresco day bed.
“It’s a great chance to write outside and feel like you’re at a resort in Byron. But you’re most certainly not. There is a kid who plays the cello in our area and it’s the hardest thing to listen to someone learn a cello.”
Tanya was hard at work prior to the shut down launching a Models Prefer makeup range called How Good Is Bread?, followed by the The Carb Collection 2.0 and releasing a new children’s book, Drum Roll Please, It’s Stevie Louise.
“It’s a mix of The Baby-Sitters Club and Hating Alison Ashley – but funnier.”
While her career is going gangbusters, she says the home front could use some attention.
“I’m so terrible, nothing matches, there is no theme, I don’t know what I am doing.”
Having rented in the inner-west of Sydney for several years with her boyfriend Tom, Tanya says their next home must have a pool.
“I really want a pool. I’m a Scorpio and grew up in Newcastle so I’m a hardcore water baby.”

COMEDIAN TANYA HENNESSY’S FAVOURITE THINGS
Who: Comedian Tanya Hennessy.
Where: Inner-city townhouse with boyfriend Tom Poole.
Favourite thing: Sunglasses – the obsession with sunnies is real. I have to stop myself from buying them. I had my school photos taken with sunnies on my head, I just love them. Plus, sunnies always fit.
Inspiration: My interior decor is just a concoction of whatever is on sale at Westfield.
Home is: Wherever Tom is. Which is usually a Macca’s drive through.
KING OF TVS
This is the Rolls Royce of TVs. I got it in 2017 and have been obsessed with it ever since. It is the best TV on the market, plus it sits on an easel and when it’s not a TV it looks like art.
I am a true crime junkie so I can’t get enough, but I love all kinds of stories. Reading is a great thing for an overworked brain.
GOLDEN BOOTS MADE FOR COMEDY
I love these boots. I bought them in Camden, London, in 2011 and did my first stand-up comedy set in them. I thought I needed them to do comedy and radio.
I never won a trophy at school. I won my first radio award (Australian Commercial Radio Award) in 2017 – I was 32. Then I won another the year after. They are the only trophies I have ever won. To win awards for the job I worked so hard at is a huge thing to me. I’m really proud of myself for winning these. I still look at them and am shocked.
A fan, now friend, Bianca made me this and gave it to me after a live show and I lost my mind. I have been obsessed with it ever since. This piece is super special to me.
SIGNATURE MAKEUP PRODUCTS
I did a collab in 2019 with Models Prefer/Priceline and it sold so quickly. It was an eyeshadow palette with little pieces of bread, called How Good Is Bread? It’s cool because it’s makeup that’s irreverent. The Carb Collection 2.0 has just launched.

WORLD’S BEST SLEEP MASK
I am obsessed with this. Chrissie Swan swore to me it was the best sleep mask and she was right. Cost a lot, but I take it everywhere … it’s a game changer.
BOBBI LOCKYER ARTWORK
I saw her on TikTok and reached out to her. I love how detailed this piece is … the more I look at it, the more I see.
I have so much art, but this is one of the five original pieces I have.
