Many are scratching their heads after a TikTok video went viral ‘revealing’ a gruelling period symptom not commonly spoken about…
As many of us can attest to, there’s an overwhelming abundance of oh-so-fun side effects that come with periods. The bloating, the cramping, the emotional rollercoasters, the cravings, and of course – the skin peeling… Well, that’s what one TikTokker wants men to believe.
In a viral video amassing an impressive 18.6million views to date, TikTok user @dfinkk peels the ‘skin’ (ie. a peel-off face mask) from her face, with the caption, “Throwback to when men didn’t know we had to peel off layers of our skin after our period…”
With 3.7 million likes and close to 180,000 comments, the internet was left reeling, with many – some female – confused as to the true dermatological nature of menstruation.

“Am I the only one who doesn’t know about this?”
The video showcasing perhaps one of the most gruelling ‘symptoms’ of *that* time-of-the-month had many people scratching their heads in the comment section:
“Am I the only one who doesn’t know about this?” asked a perplexed commenter.
“Wait, that’s a thing?” asked another.
“At first I thought this was a joke…” shared another user, “it’s either y’all are really good at faking and joking, or I’m missing something.”

“I’m insecure about my peeleriod routine”
However, many women and fellow menstruators were in on the joke and decided to have some fun of their own in the comments.
“For the boys asking if this is a joke…this actually happens and it’s extremely painful so pls be kind and this shouldn’t be joked about,” asked one user.
“I still remember how scared I was when I had to peel it for the first time,” a user shared in the comments.
“Hope my bf don’t see this, I’m insecure about my peeleriod routine,” commented another user.
“It’s nice seeing so many other women opening up about this in the comments I don’t feel alone anymore,” another shared in a touching display of vulnerability.
And one user even left a helpful tip to the TikTok creator, menstruator to menstruator:
“If you drink a lot of water a few days before you start, it’ll actually peel easier!” they shared, “Thank me later ladies.”
To which the creator replied, “Thank you sm!! Definitely helped!”
Something to keep in mind for next time Aunt Flo visits, menstruators. After all, hydration is key.
